I have removed the toolbar but I still have this blinking icon on my taskbar. What should I do next?

To get rid of the Security Toolbar and the blinking icon on the taskbar download Smithfraudfix v2.201. It is free! Start computer in safe mode and delete file for the virus removal tool the “Video ActiveX Object”. The toolbar will go away. The icon will go away when you double click on Smithfraudfix and follow the instructions. Smithfraudfix will tell you to run the program in safemode. However, I could not. It ran just fine in regular mode. You may see prompts indicating “file selected could not be found” just ignore them and keep going. Ignore rapport box, just X it out. Answer yes to do you want to clean the registry and also to replace infected file if so prompted. Print out directions before you get started. My computer runs faster than lightning now.

I tryed this and several other suggestions to fix this problem and botton line none worked. Going further, I discovered that the tools din’t work because the dll file is active so can´t be removed. I did something so simple. I had another windows (D:) installed at the same machine so I restarted that other win and then simply removed the file xpnxtxng.dll from windows/system32/ in (C:) and then restarted again the initial windows (C:). I don´’t know if it is possible to restart directly on prompt in Windows XP but if it is possible, it should work. After restart, you can run all spywares you want and it will fix everything.

I have a program called “Antispy Storm” that has attached itself to my computer, and I don’t know how to get rid of it. Yesterday, I kept getting an icon and message telling me my computer was infected with spyware. Well, yeah, the same crap they’re trying to sell me! I got the icon and message to go away, but this damn program keeps hijacking my explorer, and sending it to this “antispy storm” website. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi Allen,

Thanks for the info. It worked like a charm. cheers to SmitfraudFix :)

I have seen mmny sites that describe this spyware as very dangerous and lure people to buy their softwares such as spynomore. Think its is a scam ….

friends don’t believe in that rubbish. Security tool bar 7.1 is a low risk adware. Refer to standard antivirus websites like etrust, norton for actual details…before believing in rubbish posted in other forms by their own agents who advertise it as very dangerous and malicious and suggesting to buy their software…

i had the security toolbar on my pc and tried for ages to remove it, could not restore to an earlier time because i have let my hd become full, so no space for restore points..
id almost give up, but, found suggestions here and downloaded ‘smitfrudfix’. printed the instructions off the site.
let me tell you, i was real worried about following the instructions, what with me being a pc dunce, but i wanted rid of the annoying toolbar, so i went ahead, took 10 – 15 minutes, problem sorted.
thanks to all that had previously posted the advice!!!!

I have had this same problem for over a week now. SmitFraudFix will not run! I go into SafeMode or normal mode and try to run it but the program lets me choose option #2, it starts and then just disappears along with my desktop.

    Gary,
You should not click any link from YM or any messaging services. It may contain malicious script.

    robyn,
Your other post may have been in the moderation. We’ll still have to check.

    Bud51360,
There may be other sorts of malware that prevents you from running security programs. Run hijackthis and seek help from security experts on BleepingComputer.com. We dont have any staff to analyze HJT.

With the diligent help of my Girlfriend, the damn toolbar appears to be conquered. We ran Spybot and AdAware until all but an “undeleteable file” were gone. Then Smitfraud was run in safemode which got rid of that damned toolbar and all of the spyware. Awesome help from the site, and a great deal more relieved.

Ran into a virus by accident 3 hours ago, and got infected ending up with the toolbar and the “blinking-thing”. Also the webbrowser directing me to a page telling me I should pay for this or that to get rid of the spyware.

Ran Nod32, found nothing, ran AdAware and found 1 threat, then ran Smithfraudfix getting rid of the toolbar and the blinking icon. Last thing I did was to run XP-repair deleting the last .dll files I couldn’t remove before. So now it’s all gone. As far as I know. :)

Thank you all for your comments, it’s always nice to see what someone else have done before I try it myself.

    Thank you!
