muckdoomee is correct 100% had the exact same problem suffered with it all night till 5am. downloaded a zip file that had setup.exe that did nothing but give trouble. This is an annoying explorer/website hijacker, every time I wanted to click on a folder in windows explorer it gave me warning that spyware was present and needed to be scanned right away.

bullsh@t. so I searched and found the link to http://www.precisesecurity.com/blogs/2008/06/26/free-viruscancom/

which led me to Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware 1.20
    link to download is http://www.precisesecurity.com/tools-resources/adware-tools/malwarebytes-anti-malware/

this worked great no more hijacking occured back to normal after a reboot. malware found it as a trojan fakealert a registry key entry so the average user is not gonna get rid of this by himself you need this man… save sometime.
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! download the malwarebytes.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by the way I did have spybot s@d, advanced windows care ver2, spyware terminator, ccleaner, tune-up utilities 2008, spyware blaster, spyeraser, cwshreader, and none could detect it. also used spyware doctor (but wanted to be registered to remove anything) and also have Avast as anti-virus program. ( I love my avast but since it was not a virus It did not find the sucker, but that’s ok the malwarebytes got it lucky for me. whew!!

We have Norton and it didn’t fix the problem so we’re going to give this a try. If I don’t post back, it worked. We run Windows Vista Home Edition and get the pop up everytime we click on something (to open a folder) and internet explorer crashes.

On August 8th, my PC was infected with free-viruscan.com. McAfee anti-virus (runs silently in the background) with my Comcast account didn’t detect it,nor did their virus-scan detect it. I updated SpyBot (I usually update it once a week to several times a month) and Spybot caught it, and blocked it. Don’t always depend on anti-virus programs – you need many tools as protection – what a sad thought!
