Good morning,
I have an unwanted virus on my computer from last night and I need to remove the virus and McAfee cannot remove the dectected virus. I have Generic Artemis on my computer and I need help in removing this virus and I am using firefox for my web browser and the virus is located in my C: drive but I cannot find it and I have read other post that seem to think the virus may be in my system restore file. Thank you for your help.
Joey.
i have the same problem! help me too.
I have the same problem also tried running the Malwae proram but i am still getting the pop-up “Generic!Artemis” How can I get rid of it. Please help
I have the same problem as Jay! I removed 30 viruses or whatever with Malwarbytes..but Mcafee still says Generic!Artemis is still there….somewhere….
Could you restore your PC to a date tht’a just prior to the worm crawling into your PC?
I have the same problem. I’m going to ask McAfee why its system didn’t protect me. The Trogan doesn’t seem to be working. I’m not having any problems, but I could at anytime.
Sorry, the system removed all the backslashes from the directories in this post.
McAfee started to show this problem on my system (XP) after the latest update. After the scan, it showed that the suspect file (there was only 1) was in c:system volume informationrestore……… This is the area for restoring the system from an old time pointer.
But it did not appear in the actual system and I had no problems, so I think it was a false detection by McAfee. I looked around the Internet and found the following solution.
Note that this solution probably only applies if the suspect file is in the system restore section only!!!! You also lose all the old time pointers and files for system restoration with this solution!!!!
Under XP, you can deactivate the System Restore function by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. Under the System Restore tab, you then deactivate System Restore by checking the box. Reboot and the System Restore files have disappeared, and with them the suspect file. McAfee found no more problems on my system.
You can reactivate System Restore by unchecking the box and rebooting. This should add a new restore point in the directory ….restoreRP1.
I ran Mcafee security center on my HD and it found nothing.
Then I ran a program called CyberScrub Privacy Suite, I had set it to “wipe free space” on my HD. Before it started wiping the free space, it protected my restore points. As it was doing this, Mcafee quarantined over 10 different “Generic!Artemis” files.
It seems Mcafee Security Center is quite CHEEZY, since it does not scan Restore Point Data. It will only scan this information if another program accesses it.
Im guessing its the same way with other files on the HD also.
What good is a antivirus if it doesnt scan ALL files on a HD?
i have generic artemis (Trojan)which is quarantined the path is on file C it say; program file\online services\AOLUS\AOL90\COMPS\ACS\ACSSETUP.EXE
i delete the file path AOLUS but i saw something on my
control panel a new added one which is TEXT TO SPEECH. as i remember this does not exis before. How could i overcome this ?plese help
I have had McAfee now for over 10 years. Since then I have had 2 Trojans on my PC. I contacted support for the first one, which I can’t remember what name it went as. And McAfee sent me instructions on how to remove it, which it did. Now I have this Generic!Artemis crap, which McAfee found with my last scheduled scan. I am beginning to think McAfee is not doing it’s job. Why didn’t McAfee stop this virus in its tracks! Why should I pay for something that does not work 100 percent? They say McAfee is the best but I have my doubts now. I will be looking for a better Anti Virus program now. They lost a good paying customer.
Generic Artemis is a scam by McAfee. How do I know this? Two Japanese games that I downloaded directly from a reputable site and paid for, were flagged by McAfee as having ‘Generic Artemis’ in the .exe’s for the games.
Load of crap there. I went to the website of the game maker….. they told me to ignore it, because Generic Artemis is a heuristic thing with McAfee, and doesn’t work right yet.
So now, whenever I see something classed as ‘Generic Artemis’….. I just restore it, because it is not correctly identifying a real virus.
I got rid of mine it took me 4 days but i did. First find the virus file name under your anti-virus program.
check the components of the file virus name , then do a search on your hard drive type part of the virus in the search engine, then slowly u will find it and get rid of it.
Any Response?
