A fake web page messages that says “This web site is restricted based on your security preferences” is part of a scam activity. The warning page is first drop on the system by a Trojan that is closely working with a rogue program. The same Trojan will redirect Internet traffic on this fake warning page. The trick seems to work and many computer users can be deceive by this frightening alert. Every Google search result link is about to get a glimpse of this fake alert page. That is why; this search manupulation was tagged as “Google Search Redirect.”

The involve Trojan is commonly drop by another virus infection on computer along with rogue security software like Internet Security 2010. Then it will alter target computer’s network configuration and Internet browser settings. It also prevents user from visiting web sites by altering the Windows hosts file. Adding its own entries to the lists makes requested pages to resolve a requested URL to another web address.

How to remove Google Search Redirect:

1. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (mbam-setup.exe) and save it on your Desktop.
2. After downloading, double-click on the file to install the application.
3. Follow the prompts and install as “default” only
4. Before the installation completes, check on the following prompts:
- Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
5. Click “Finish.” Program will run automatically and you will be prompt to update the program before doing a scan. Please update.
6. Scan your computer thoroughly.
7. When scanning is finished, click on the “Show Results”
8. Make sure that all detected threats are marked, click on Remove Selected.
9. Restart your Windows.

Note: Trojan may prevent mbam-setup.exe from downloading and running. You can download and rename this program from a different computer before running it on infected system.
