Hello. Thanks for this. I got attacked by “Antivirus XP.” I ran both MalwareByte and AdAware, however, and it can’t find it. Also, I am protected with Symantec AntiVirus. I’m at the verge of wiping everything and starting over. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I’ve seen this on 7 different computers now. I install a small program called IObit advance system care and run a program within it that will show and analyze the programs that are set to run automatically when windows starts. It will usually come back with a file name that is just several random letters as being a security risk. Right click it and hit delete (which causes it to not load when windows loads) restart the pc, then run malware bytes anti malware. Although the suggestion on this page to download that program on another computer and rename the setup file sounds like a good idea that I’ll have to try next time.
