BlockScanner is the successor to its other variants like BlockWatcher, SoftBarrier and ShieldSafeness. BlockScanner uses the same tactics of scaring computer users with its simulated virus scanning with false results. It will also constantly display warning messages to cheat users on the importance of this rogue program.
Usually, BlockScanner can be acquired by downloading a fake video coder/decoder (codec) coming from fake adult websites. These website features multimedia that were not able to view until the said codec was downloaded and installed. Unknown to users, it has a malicious program BlockScanner embedded to it.
