Smart Scan is another variant of the large group of fake hard drive defragmentation tool created specifically for scam purposes. Similar to to Fast Disk and My Disk, SmartScan virus will be dropped on to the computer by a separate Trojan. As studied, Trojan can penetrate a computer without users knowledge by spotting software vulnerabilities and security flow. With this method, an attacker can easily get itself on the victims computer without a knowledge. This is just one example how Smart Scan will be present on computers without the need to have it installed by the user. Additionally, fake online scanner web pages can also contribute to the contraction of Smart Scan virus. Infected files from a file-sharing networks downloaded on to computer is another means.

It is best to have a full-working anti-malware program protecting the computer to avoid malicious Internet traffic and infected files to pass through.
