Please follow carefully these procedure for XP Guardian removal.
1. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (mbam-setup.exe) and save it on your Desktop.
2. After downloading, double-click on the file to install the application.
3. Follow the prompts and install as “default” only
4. Before the installation completes, check on the following prompts:
- Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
5. Click “Finish.” Program will run automatically and you will be prompt to update the program before doing a scan. Please update.
6. Scan your computer thoroughly.
7. When scanning is finished click on the “Show Results”
8. Make sure that all detected threats are marked, click on Remove Selected.
9. Restart your computer.
Note: XP Guardian may prevent mbam-setup.exe from downloading and running. You can download and rename this program from a different computer before running it on infected system.
This thing’s infected me four times in the past few weeks, I definitely believe the overall risk level meter should be increased a couple of tic marks or so. Yes, the damage is low, but the risk is high, this thing’s out there and keeps coming back with avengence.
Note: XP Guardian/Security DISABLES Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, while other “trusted” anti-virus programs like McAfee turn up clean – a friend of mine suggested downloading Spybot Search and Destroy; I’ve tried it and it works like a charm, as it has successfully detected the virus, removed it, and even fixed the registry errors it has created each time it has infected me.
Why the hell do some people just sit around all day, writing up these things just to ruin other people’s lives? Cyber-sadists.
Hi Joseph.
Very well said and worded exactly as it happends. Spybot worked ok
Thanks
Phil
i am infected with this. downloaded the malware and it didnt work. Downloaded spybot, and it still is on my computer. I cant seem to get rid of it! Any other suggestions?
Sorry to hear your troubles Carina with this dumb virus, infected me, denied me access to the internet so I couldn’t download Malware Anti-Virus, but I think that’s the reason why Flash Drives were created and having a second computer that doesn’t have XP Guardian targeting it. Anyways, I looked up other solutions and I found one site that said to do the following:
Click Start, Run. Type command and press Enter. Type notepad and press Enter.
Notepad opens. Copy all the text below into Notepad.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@=”\”%1\” %*”
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@=”exefile”
“Content Type”=”application/x-msdownload”
Save this as fix.reg to your Desktop (remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad.)
Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot your computer.
Didn’t work for me, but perhaps you would have some luck?
Any Response?
