This should DEFINITELY be bumped up to high risk. This thing has my computer in tatters. I can’t spend 5 minutes on it before it freezes up & I have to hard boot. I’m at risk of losing all my files, this is one NASTY bug!
Malwarebytes anti-malware really works except in my case Spyware Guard 2008 left a big red and white advertising window as background on my desktop. It replaced the background theme that I had in place. No anti-malware program will remove this. You have to remove it yourself.
Go to Start/Control Panel/Display/Appearance and look for the file “bg.” Go to Search and under “All files anf folders” type in “bg” and voila! you will find bg.jpg and bg.bmp. Delete both files and you will have removed the last remnant of this vicious and nasty rogue application.
I had the same problem.Installed MAMB and ran full scan.Still no luck
One very important par that was left out of the process.
You MUST dissable System Restore FIRST. Reboot the machine into “Safe Mode With Networking”, download, install, update and RUN Malwarebytes. Reboot into Safe Mode and scan AGAIN.
I’m currently working on a machine that got whacked by this little nasty but since the owner had tried running the machine anyway, it had PLENTY of time to download all sorts of other little nasties including a Root Kit. Chances are his machine is going to need reloading.
