How to Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders
By default, MS Windows hides files and folders that are associated to its system. This is a precautionary measure to prevent changes and accidental deletion on important Windows files.
There are instances that even personal files and folder are set hidden for unknown reasons. Some malware will modify Windows configuration to prevent users from changing the settings of Show Hidden Files and Folders under Folder Options. A typical Trojan can make specific changes to your system settings to serve its own purpose.
These steps will help you regain access to concealed files and folders.
A: How to Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders Through Registry
1 . Go to Start > Run
2. Type regedit on the box
3. On Registry editor navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
4. On the right pane, delete the value with
- Name: CheckedValue
- Type: REG_SZ
- Data: 2

5. Create a new DWORD. Right-click on the right pane > New >DWORD Value
6. Value should be:
- Name: CheckedValue
- Type: REG_DWORD
- Data: 1
B: Download The Configuration File
1. Download folderoption.reg.
2. Save it in your Desktop or any folder where you can easily access it
3. Go to your Desktop
4. Double-click the folderoption.reg
5. If it prompts if you want to add the information on the registry, click YES
6. It will confirm that information was successfully entered into registry, click OK
7. You should now be able to modify Show Hidden Files and Folders settings.
C: Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders Using Free Tool
RRT or Remove Restrictions Tool is a free tool to enable access to different Windows process disabled by virus infections.
This tool is used to enable access to:
- Registry Tools (regedit)
- Ctrl+Alt+Del
- Folder Options
- Show Hidden Files
Download RRT: http://download.sergiwa.com/security/2/RRT.exe

- after registry modification go to folder window – Tools > Folder options > View, and just click again on ‘show hidden …’, ‘ok’, and you see hidden files again.

CheckedValue was already 1 when I opened the registry…. and method B didn’t change a thing. I go to folder options, select show hidden files and folders, click OK, but the hidden folders don’t show. When I reopen folder options, it has auto-reselected do not show hidden, and I can’t seem to change it. In fact, I have not been able to change any settings on this account: background won’t change, power settings won’t change, etc…. but they do change on my other accounts. Any suggestions?

Even I faced similar problem. But I solved it myself after a lot of research. This was my problem. I am running windows 7. Whenever I mark a file as hidden, it completely disappears from the explorer. I cant see the file even if the option “Show hidden files…” is enabled in folder option. I tried all options, nearly 20 to 25 of them available on net. But, ultimately, I discovered a solution, that WORKED and SOLVED my problem. Here is what you have to do.
1. Copy the following code to a notepad, save it with a .reg extension (not .txt).
2. Double click of that file to Merge the contents.
3. Close all the explorer windows, if any and re-open.
4. No wonder this works for you too, because it worked for me.
The code is given below:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
“Hidden”=dword:00000001
“SuperHidden”=dword:00000001
“ShowSuperHidden”=dword:00000001
“WebViewBarricade”=dword:00000001
!!!ATTENTION!!!
For all those people who find all the above to simply Not work then i give u the most Clever way to fix this problem!!!
READ WITH CARE!
1. Find the folder that u are trying to view Hidden Files with in.
2. Right-Click the folder and Select the “Properties”
3. Now Follow these steps with care so u don’t mess up!
4. Make sure you do not close Properties Dialog box!
5. In Properties, Make this folder Hidden by clicking the box at bottom next to where it says “Hidden” BUT make SURE you do not close the Properties Dialog window. keep this open! or all will be lost!
6. Once u have clicked “Hidden” then Click “Apply” Then a new Dialog window comes up.
7. Click on the option that says “Apply changes to this folder,sub-folders and files” then click “OK” and REMEMBER KEEP THE PROPERTIES WINDOW OPEN!!!
8. OK sow now folder id hidden and all files with in. so now in REVERSE. Now because u kept the Properties Window open, repeat what we did to get all files and folders UNHIDDEN :) very simple!
9. click again on the “Hidden” check box and again on “Apply changes to this folder,sub-folders and files” then once u have repeated all this u would have all files and folders Unhidden!
10. Now u can close properties window, as long as the “Hidden” box is not checked!
I tried to be as detailed as possible for the simplest user so i hope that you like this Very easy solution to the Hidden File problem
