Downloader.Lofog!gen5 has the tendency to further infect the computer by downloading more threats from a remote location. This Trojan was specifically crafted to get into the computer while trying to evade antivirus program. If successful, Downloader.Lofog!gen5 will connect to a distant server and download addition threats called Trojan.Sasfis and Trojan.Zbot.
Distribution
Downloader Trojan is primarily spread through spam operation. It is either in the form of email or Internet campaign. To be specific, Downloader.Lofog!gen5 role is to fetch other malware that cannot be distributed over the said campaign. Being small in size and able to escape antivirus detection, Downloader.Lofog!gen5 can easily fit email attachment. An author of this Trojan also embeds the code into executable files that are mostly hosted on unsecured file-sharing networks.
How to Remove Downloader.Lofog!gen5
1. Temporarily Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP). [how to]
2. Open your antivirus application and update the virus definition file.
3. Start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking.
- From a power-off state, turn on the computer and press F8 on your keyboard repeatedly.
- Your computer will display Windows Advanced Boot Options menu. Please select Safe Mode with Networking.
- The system will now boot Windows and loads only necessary drivers and files.
4. Open your antivirus program and run a full system scan. After the scan, delete all infected items. If it cannot be deleted, better place them in quarantine. Once the scan is complete, please proceed with the next step.

7. Select an option in which you can thoroughly scan the computer to make sure that it will find and delete entirely all infections not detected on previous scan.
8. Remove or delete all detected items.
9. When scanning is finished you may now restart the computer in normal mode.
