First it would not load MBAM so I renamed the file then the folder – it goes to the end saying finishing installation and it hangs.

My Norton found this bug, but that’s all I can seem to do. I can’t get my Internet working… And I can’t execute a lot of programs. System restore doesn’t work… Malwarebytes doesn’t work.
I managed to uninstall MalwareBytes, then loaded the installer off another computer… but I can’t get the installer to initialize. Any hints?

Same problem as Curt, Internet not working (related to TCP/IP driver, which won’t start, and when I start it, it says file not found even though I could see the file, then I uninstall some TCP/IP thing, big mess). Program.Generic.200 is constantly found in scan, action is “Partial”. But this happens every time I reboot.

BTW, if you can’t download like I couldn’t, you need to use a 2nd computer and transfer the root-repeal and anti-malware software via thumb drive/whatever to your desktop. TWO things need to be downloaded

I’m having the same problem as Mitch. My Internet won’t work, so I downloaded malwarebytes on another computer and transferred it with my thumb drive…and the installation window just hangs at “finishing”. All the files seem to be there, but it won’t run (and won’t uninstall or reinstall, even tried in safe mode). Anyone have any new ideas on this? I’ve been at it all day and have tried everything that I can think of or has been suggested so far.

Well kids it seems we all have something in common. I contracted this little beauty through a download. Norton stated it had encountered the virus but it would not wipe it out so I called Norton and they wanted me to pay the amount of $143.00 to remove it via the net. I told them to flower themselves and tried several other avenues resulting in nothing but more severe problems. The virus was wiping out more and more much needed applications. Quite the designer piece to say the least. After all the trouble I backed up my better goodies and had to do the ritual system wipe and start everything from scratch as many other malware programs failed to do the job. Good luck goes to future recipients.

With my computer ‘system restore’ OFF, I did Microsoft one care full scan and Microsoft malicious software removal scan at the same time. IGNORE pop-ups!
This fixed much of the problem.
I then restarted my computer.
Currently I’m doing a SUPERAntiSpyware full scan and registry items have been identified with others too.

Hi everyone,
To anyone that couldn’t run the program enter the folder in which you installed the program in and change the name of all the .exe files
\Program Files\Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.
Wish you all luck.

I have tried everything, I can get malwarebytes to run, have updated the latest definitions in Norton, turned off system restore, run a full system scan in malwarebytes and Norton, yet the damn Packed Generic 200 still pops up under Norton 360.
I am starting to wonder if its a Norton thing, no other antivirus program seems to detect it. And it only came to light immediately after I installed Norton 360. I can’t understand if Norton’s detects it, why it can’t remove it, this packed generic 200 threat is over a year old since it first hit the web.
Is there any other remedy to rid this thing?

Installed Norton 360 and low and behold Packed generic showed up. Can anyone say class action. Norton needs to provide a solution and not for 143$. I am uninstalling Norton 360 and requesting full refund plus damages.

I finally got anti-malware to run (by renaming the .exe as suggested above) and it stopped dead in it’s tracks during the heuristics scan. It seems that is found packed generic 200 all right. I can’t tell for sure of course. at least not yet.

Seems my brother’s computer keeps getting viruses of sorts. Just got rid of About_Blank a few months back, and I am currently working on this one. I’ll probably get rid of it, then won’t come back here to explain how, so drop me an e-mail.

And I also have Norton. I believe they are huge scam artists. They haven’t protected this computer from .

OK guys, Norton is not the problem, if Norton detected that was because you where already infected, Norton is not working because the malware won’t let it do it. backup all your file and reinstall everything. Easy and and cheap.

I doubt that a company as reputable as Norton would be leading you on a wild goose chase. I’m currently fixing a laptop with the said virus and I too had a problem running Malware when I downloaded it. I renamed it and everything and still it would not run. I opened up my processes and saw instances of iexplorer.exe that I did not initiate. After stopping those processes and a few others, the renamed versions of Malware worked fine. I think the reason Norton cant clean this virus, is because there is an open process, hidden in plain sight that prevents it from running. Before I got this far, I managed to download and install spybot s&d and it installed fine but never ran. After closing down those instances of iexplorer.exe, however, it ran fine.

I caught the bug also, called Norton and got a non English speaking technician who was no help except when it came to me paying $100 for them to clear it up. A co-worker told me about AVG software. Downloaded free AVG, installed it and ran a full scan. Took about 4 hours but it worked. I cancelled my Norton account.

Just a suggestion, malwarebytes will run from a thumb drive. I downloaded and installed to a thumb and have been running it from there. But still working on this bleeping virus.

Same problem as everyone else. I contacted Norton and got the same response as Stan above…they wanted $100 to fix my computer. Crap…that’s more than I paid for their “highly touted software.” I’ve been a subscriber for almost 10 years, and they just lost me to a competitor. Sounds like a nice scam to me!
BTW, the instructions from pricesecurity above seem to have solved the problem…thanks.

I have this bug as well as Norton Internet security. it pisses me off that they would make the repair so expensive, but what can we do, right? As Stan suggested earlier, to download AVG, i might just do that and attempt to get rid of this pesky virus.
But here’s the kicker, i have a friend that has been working for geeksquad for about 3 years now who’s a friend with a dude that works for symantec, and they DO create viruses for the sole purpose of earning geeksquad/best buy/symantec money for the repairs. there is nothing we can do, we have no freedoms, but who cares. if AVG doesn’t work for me, ill just take it up to geeksquad and have them remove it.
I just got the virus yesterday so its best that i do this ASAP
