try this move, it worked for me after going nuts over this for a whole day.
Reboot in safe mode
browse to C:\Documents and settings\all users\ application data
There will be a folder in there that has eight numbers as a name (ex 91908431)
Delete this bad boy, empty recycle bin
Reboot normally, delete all left over shortcuts, empty recycle bin again and you are home free.

I completed the purchase with fake information but with the correct number of characters of cc numbers etc. and the annoying pop-up and blue screen of near death disappeared after telling me my computer is clean!

First I used msconfig to disable all start up programs. Did a reboot and “Safety Center” still loaded. I then deleted any .exe files in the root dir that I didn’t reconize. Then I renamed the Directory “Program Files\Safety Center” to “junk”. Did another reboot and the program DID NOT load. Still couldn’t get any anti-virus to run. Removed the hard drive and added it to a computer running One Care, did a scan and found 26 diff virus. After returning the hard drive to the first puter, I reinstalled SP2 to XP. Then installed AVG 9.0 with NO problems.

I get the blue screen of death immediately when I try to boot in Safe Mode. When I restart normally, Security Tool won’t let me open a single window. Not “Run” or “Search” or “Control Panel” much less any programs. A pop-up windows says that all of those are infected with viruses trying to steal my credit card information.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I got hit by this virus and after listening to some ill advice, I ran MSCONFIG and unchecked everything except regedit. It did not bring me to Safe Mode and every option of Safe Mode brought on the blue screen of death. Tried going into ‘Last Known Good Configuration’ and ‘Start Normally’ but both produced a green screen of death!
How do I recover from this? I am now more interested in booting into some place than to rid the virus!
PLEASE HELP!

A fellow employee had this stupid problem today. Only the blue screen with all the pop-ups. I found a great solution for the short-term anyway. I pretended to want to buy their virus removal software and filled in fake info and credit card info. The first time I was “denied” but the second time it worked. It said it was accepted and it did a fake virus scan then everything went back to normal. Employee working as normal for past several hours so it seems to have worked for now.

Dear Mr. Philly Keith
Thank you very much… worked in safe mode(Thank God) Opened C:\Documents and settings\all users\ application data
and first folder was 8digits, sent all to recycling bin and emptied it…
After rebooting went to start and security tool and deleted it then deleted icon from desktop by drag and drop into recycle bin… finally emptied bin. Hopefully it wont return(fingers crossed)
Keep up the good work!!!!!!

I was able to delete this by Finding the process in the Task Manager (just lpocat something that is a bunch of numbers only), stoping the process, then simply delete the exe and folder. Did not need to start in Safe mode. It has been gone for about an hour now and am having no problems. This thing apeared to be restarting my machine constantly as well.

I got this nasty piece of work and got rid of it by using file back-up then the repair and restore system. This has worked so far. I’m using windows vista premium. I tried the other options but it would’nt let me even open task manager, also when you just delete it thru’ windows defender it went then kept coming back when i switched comp. on again.

Hope this helps a few of you.
Just found this on my daughters laptop which is running Vista.
Start in safe mode F8, go start, computer, local disc C:, program data, about 3rd folder down was a folder called 45758332 (not sure if it will be the same number in all cases), I explored it just to check and it contained the scurity tool.exe file)
Delete this folder and reboot.
once you have restarted delete it from the start list and the desktop shortcuts and all should be fine.

Jan 15, 2010 @ 19:31:43
Anyone having problems reconnecting to their wireless router after getting rid of this nasty bug should call the router company (IE:Belkin, ect) to get help reconnecting the router to your station. That being said:
This is ONE NASTY, NASTY virus program! An employee in my office had her PC infected with this vicious program. The MIT DEPT could not figure it out as this program blocks anyone from entering ANY PROGRAMS on their computer.
Philly Keith is right on the button. I was able to remove this program. I wrote everything down so I could relay to others what works. This is step by step as some people are not as computer savvy as others, so bare with me please : ) Here is what I did:
*When you are restarting windows, the first screen to appear (in my case) is a blue screen that says DELL and has the F commands for set up and safe mode in the upper right of the screen.
*when this screen appears it only stays on a few seconds so VERY QUICKLY hit the F8 safe mode key and hold it down until the next screen appears.
*This new screen prompts you to choose what mode you want to start windows in. Use the up and down keys (located below the delete, end, page down keys) to select the safe mode and hit enter.
* Allow windows to start up and fully load in the safe mode.
* Once fully loaded, click on the start menu. Then click on the run….which is usually located below the search.
* When this opens type C:\documents and settings\all users\application data
* Click ok
* A page comes up with file folders of all applications on your computer. There was only one file that contained numbers only. Click open that file.
* A new page opens that shows The virus “Security Tool”.
* I left clicked on the file (do not open!!!!) and clicked on the delete (which sends it to the recycle bin).
* I then clicked the back button and sent the file folder with the number (which is now empty) to the recycle bin.
* I closed out that window. I opened the recycle bin from my desk top and emptied my recycle bin.
* I shut my PC down and restarted. The virus was gone. I had to go into my display options and fix some of the display settings that had been changed from this virus. I also ran my anti virus program and scanned my computer right away. Everything is working good now. I hope that this helps someone out.

I got the infected crap, managed to start a scan, no virus was detected, rebooted and fk it was still there this time I could not access my Virus Protection files. I went to safe mode and as I could not establish the name of the file, I fumbled around using search for recently added exe. to no avail. I right clicked Security Tool on the desk top, This pointed to C:\ProgramData\71319324.exe. I was still unsure at this stage whethere this was the fkn problem so I renamed the file Rem71319324.exe. I shut down and rebooted normally and the pain I had been experiencing for hours had gone. I then deleted the shortcut, went back to the renamed file and dispatched it to the bin. Then I mtied the bin shut down and did a search for the fkr. Its gone

My son clicked a pop-up last night and that installed this stupid Security Tool bug. What a PITA! Don’t click pop-ups. Especially the “your system is infected” pop up, don’t click anywhere on it – even the x to close it. If you do, the virus will be downloaded. Just shut down without clicking anywhere on that pop-up box.
To get rid of it: Use Ctrl/Alt/Delete to open the task manager, but you have to -catch it – by clicking it as soon as it opens, otherwise the virus tries to close the task manager as soon as the task manager opens. It took me a couple of tries, but I got it.
Find the process with the numbers only and click “End Process” That will end the annoying pop-ups and you’ll get control back. Then run your antivirus software, or the Malicious software removal tool.
Reboot and you should be good to go.

Mine wouldn’t allow me to open anything… wouldn’t even allow me to open in safe mode. I Clicked the buttons on Security Tools pop-ups as if I was going to purchase it but instead of actually purchasing it i hit the activate button to enter my fake activation number. TheHacker listed it above. It acted as if it was cleaning up my computer then said it was clean. That finally allowed me to open up in safe mode to get rid of it. I opened in safe mode with Networking and googled and downloaded Malwarebytes. Set it up and ran it in safe mode. I did a full scan and it got rid of every bit of it. Thanks to all for your help!

Thanks for all of your input guys! Mine required both deleting it as Philly said and running a retore. I was also unable to start Windows in safemode, so I turned it off by holding down the button instead of shutting it down. When turning it back on it automatically prompted me to start in safe mode after telling me it was shut down wrong. Hope this helps!

Hi all
I have just had the same problem – Damn thing! I have been trying for several hours to resolve this and (fingers crossed) I have solved it, with a lot of help from the above comments. I ran my laptop in safe mode (f8) then restored system (start-all programs-Accessories-system tools.) I restored it from a couple of days back. When my laptop re-started i still had that damn SYSTEM TOOLS icon!!! So i tried to do C:\Documents and settings\all users\ application data and removed the icon ETC empty recycle bin…. But I too couldn’t find it… So i went on the icon on my desk top and right clicked… went to properties…then the option find target should take you to the path! Tad-dah! Delete the Icon and then empty recycle bin! Good luck x

I bring a great news for Windows 7 users to get rid from this virus. It was continuously poping up on my desktop whatever I was trying to open even was not allowing me to install any antivirus software. The way I was successful removing this is as follows;
1- Click on start and in search type Forefront Client Security, open this default program; 2- Click on Antimalware protection; 3- Click on “Run Quick Scan” from left side bar; 4- It will pick a trojen in a min or so; 5- You will get an option to remove;;; This gave me big relief as my office is closed for 10 holidays and without this I couldn’t be able to use my PC until the IT guys from my company came back to work.
It would be my pleasure, if I can help the people in trouble. If this suggestion helps you, please share your experience with me. You can find my contact details simply by googling my name with quotes (like “full name”).

Sorry, I forget to add furthere that you would need also need to remove the program so that next time when you boot doesn’t lood again. For that follow the following steps;
6- Click start, search “show hidden files and folders” and set the radio button “show hidden files, folders and directories” and click ok; 7- Go to “C:\ProgramData\” and delete xxxxxxxx where xxxxxxxx is a folder with the name made of 8 digits; 8- Finally, you would need to remove it from startup as follows; (i) Click “start” and then “run” and type msconfig, (ii) In this dialog search for “startup” and find same 8 digit startup number, (iii) uncheck it; Now you have done it successfully.
Also please don’t forget to share your experience by finding my contact through googling (“my full name”).

I told her to shut it down, and she has no proof, can’t open the sec. tool up or anything. She is really upset, I told her before she paid for it, that I wasn’t sure about it, but she went ahead and now her computer is all messed up. The banks are closed today and she wants her money back…we called # I found on google, (sec. tool #) but they said they was closed too. I told her that it was scam! Please help her

Hey this happened to me today! After several frustrating hours I did a hot shut down, then turned on the computer and started it in safe mode with networking, then restored to the night before (when I am not yet infected wirh the Security Tool virus). Now it runs fine I just hope it keeps doing so. Just wondering have I really got rid of it or is it still hiding somewhere in my computer? Will it have any of my information or is it just a bug that keeps bugging you to buy the program? I am going to install extra security soon. Cheers.

I have a laptop running Vista. I used the solution on geekpolice ( running Malware) and it seems to have worked. I had to start my computer in Safe Mode Networking to get to the web site. After that I just followed the instructions on their site and it looks like the process was successful. Good luck to others.

Philly Keith is right on. Some people said they cannot see the applications folder. This folder is hidden. To unhide it you need to choose from the folder tool bar: Tools: Folder Options: View, then select Show All Hidden Files and Folders. The applications folder will then be visible. Delete the 8 digit folder and also delete the entry from your startup folder. Good luck!

I am running on vista. I opened in safe mode (F8 at startup) and opened with internet connections. I went on the internet and downloaded malwarebytes anti-malware software for free and ran it. I did a scan while still in safe mode and it found the Rogue virus. I had 6!! I immediately selected to delete them and they were removed. Then it instructed me that my computer had to restart and sure enough, IT IS GONE!! Thanks for all the advice. I was able to pick apart some of the suggestions until I got the problem resolved.

For those having trouble even with safe mode, try booting with safe with command prompt option. At the command prompt, run rstrui.exe (on vista). That will start the system restore. You restore your system to a better place in the past.

Compliments to Philly Keith and Andrea. Here are a few extra tips:
* For Windows7: The culprit (directory with all-digit name) is located in C:/ProgramData, not C:/Docs and Settings/All Users.
* Once you locate the offensive directory; right-click view details in explorer. You can verify the date/time it appeared.
* Shift-delete does a permanent delete, without sending it to the recycle bin. Nonetheless, it’s still good to empty the recycle bin when done.
* Make sure to get rid of all the shortcuts, both on your desktop and on the scroll-up menu that appears from the start button. Then empty the recycle bin again.
* If you have multiple accounts on your computer, do all the above from the Admin account. Then log in to every one of the other accounts to check for short cuts, delete as necessary, and empty their respective recycle bins.

thank you to those who have posted helpful entries. I use vista and managed to remove the virus by opening in safe mode (holding down f8) and then finding the file in programme files and then using the drop down to find the file with 8 digits as a file name (it seems that the files all have different 8 digit file name but this was the only such file in my progamme files). I then deleted it. I restarted, emptied my recycle bin and deleted the shortcut that had been left on my desktop. It seems to have gone now. Thanks to Philly Keith, Mark et al. Good luck to anyone else who has got this wretched virus.

I was infested by security tool wirefall alert virus about an hour ago. It would pop up every second, I couldn’t even use the internet to search for a solution on my laptop, so through my iphone I read through this website. Thanks to all of your comments I was able to fight off this damn virus! So, I’m summing up what I did for Windows 7 users:
-Restart Windows, press F8 to enter the safe mode
-Right click onto security tool shortcut, go into properties
-There you will see an option “locate the file”, click on that
-You will see a folder with several numbers, I don’t remember how many numbers there were on mine, but doesn’t matter.
-Shift delete that folder.
-Find all the shortcuts – on desktop, under the start menu and delete them
-Go to recycle bin (if it’s not visible on your desktop, go to my computer and it should be visible on the left bar), and delete all the short cuts.
- Restart Windows.
TATA, YOU’VE WON THE BATTLE! Oh, I’m so relieved I didn’t lose any data and it was this easy! Thanks everyone for sharing all your experience!

I know what to do when you cannot remove the virus
switch on PC and then keep tapping f11 until you get to the system recovery menu.
Make sure you save important files as after this you wont get them back if you dont save them on a cd or usb.
After you get to system recovery go on full system recovery and wait until it has finished then it will shut down. then switch it on and then it will be like the first day you switched on your machine with no unwanted files and viruses.

Hey, I’m trying to get rid of this stupid virus and I’ve tried everything except more downloads. They can’t work because the infected computer won’t allow me to get on internet explorer, and my USB drivers are broken. I’ve tried Philly Keith’s method, but I can’t find the files, and I can’t track them with right click/properties on the icon because right click won’t do anything. Maybe it’s because I have windows Vista, and all the file names are different. I’ve even tried THEHACKER’s method, but that doesn’t work eithere. It just says that the code is invalid. Do I need to copy it directly off this website? Or is it just that the Vista version has a different activation code. Can anyone offer me any advice on this. I really don’t want to have to resort to wiping the system clean.

On Windows Vista I found the 8 digit folder that Philly Keith referred to in the ProgramData folder. To see the folder in Windows Explorer you may have to use the “Folder and Search Options”, followed by the “View” tab, to “Show hidden files and folders” as well as untick “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”. You could in fact also run “c:\ProgramData” directly from the start box.
I also had problems running Regedit and msconfig. The best approach I found was to boot in safe mode. I then used msconfig to find the 8 digit .exe that runs at startup and unticked it. I then deleted the folder the startup referred to from the ProgramData folder and cleared the recycle bin. I also used Regedit to find references to the 8 digit number and cleared out the ones I felt comfortable deleting.

Got this virus last night on the home desktop. I didn’t realize that our PC did not have any virus protection.
This ‘scam’ was only affecting one user, so I logged on to a different user and downloaded AVG.
From there I restarted in “safe mode.” There was actually a shortcut on the desktop for “Security Tool,” so I right clicked and was able to open the file location and delete it. Then deleted the shortcut. Restarted normally and it seems to be fine.

Ok, the following will work if you have another web browser installed on your system already i.e. firefox or chrome….:
first thing to do is…..download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/FixExe.reg go there and download that registry tool. Once downloaded, install it and let it change your registry settings. Once you’ve done this, you should be able to activate any anti virus program you already have installed. If you don’t already have anti virus software then fret not, go to….. http://www.precisesecurity.com/tools-resources/adware-tools/malwarebytes-anti-malware – download and install that and then run a full virus scan and thats it, you’re sorted – just remove any foreign bodies it picks up – simples!

A client had this rogue program on his laptop..
Was very difficult to remove.
None of the above worked. could not delete the Security Tool Program
Safe mode , Last known good configuration did not work…
Could not run msconfig… etc
Had to go to CPU performances…
stop 41214012.exe from running.
Then went into C: prompt and removed directory for this application using Old Dos commands.
Path for directory is located under Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\41214012 ( 8 digits)
If you can not find it, it maybe hidden.

Enter the serial code WNDS-S0DF5-GS5E0-FG14S-2DF8G in the activation code.
it will say cleaning. The pop ups will stop. Turn off the pc and turn it back on. Start task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and click processes and delete the one with a number which is approx 6-8 digits long.
Delete all the shortcuts and from the start menu and restart your computer and it will be gone.

Philly Kieth has it, but if that doesn’t work:
Disconnect the PC from the internet if you haven’t already. Boot into safe mode (F8 Key during start-up) then try this path with the option turned ON to view hidden folders (with a Windows window open, click Tools > Folder Options, click the View tab, it’s near the bottom of the scrolling window if you DON’T scroll, click the “Show Hidden Files and Folders” option.):
c:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\$$$$$$$$$
USERNAME = the name you were logged on at the time. Check others to be safe.
$$$$$$$$$ = 8-9 numbers, letters, or a combination of both.
Right click the $$$$$$$$$ folder, press and hold the Shift key, then click delete. This forces a bypass of the Recycle Bin. Click Yes to the confirmation “Are you sure you want to delete this folder and it’s contents?”
NOTE: Misuse of the following could damage, or prevent your Windows from starting/running correctly, proceed with caution. When in doubt, find someone who can help that is knowledgeable in the use of regedit.
Now go to Start > Run. Type “regedit” without the quotes, and go to these locations and delete ONLY the following specified entries. You can break your system if your are not careful. Click on the plus signs on the left Tree Menu to navigate.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > RUN (click on the RUN folder icon)
Now in the right-hand window, identify the entry with a Data value equal to the path+folder name you deleted a moment ago. Right click this entry, select delete. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK THE RIGHT ENTRY.
Now repeat the above process at the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > RUN (click on the RUN folder icon)
Now in the right-hand window, identify the entry with a Data value equal to the path+folder name you deleted a moment ago. Right click this entry, select delete. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK THE RIGHT ENTRY.
Close regedit, confirm your Recycle Bin is empty, and restart. Your computer should be clean, IF this was the only malware on your machine.
Good Luck and happy computing.

My laptop was working fine one day and the next this pop up appeared. I couldn’t open anything on my system; docs, task mgr ect. I couldn’t even get system restore to open in safe mode. I tried using malwarebyte as advised by Bullguard, but that didn’t work eithere so I followed Philly Keith’s instructions. But like some of the others on her I couldn’t locate the file. I did find it eventually by being in safe mode, click on start and the security tool icon showed up there. I right clicked on show location and sure enough there it was in Windows media. I deleted the file, emptied my recyclye bin and everything seems good! Thanks a lot, I really thought my laptop was done for! :)

I got hit with Security Tool on my laptop today. I’m not able to try any of the above suggestions because currently the program is running and won’t even allow me to log off, hence I can’t even restart in safe mode and do a system restore. All I’m able to do is open the laptop and enter my password and it takes me to the screen where it says I’m unable to log off (due to 4567534.exe running) and the “A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer” screen is in the background. Should I wait a couple days and see if it goes away? Nothing I press takes me out of that screen.
Just solved it

Jan i just had this and it was a bitch. Cheat with ur laptop and take the battery out so it goes dead. Then restart it and when its restarting it should allow you to use “safe mode” then. Then do your system restore. I did that and it was gone.

From what I gathere I’ve managed to get rid of this. Simply by restarting laptop, then just before everything loads up after the welcome screen hitting ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager up. I then waited a few secs and ended the process of the running security tool. That managed to stop the annoying pop ups and fake warnings, and also enabled me to go to system restore (I couldn’t do this before). I’ve just Restored it back to a previous date and now there doesn’t seem to be any resemblance of this. Hopefully this means that it’s definately gone and nothing is left hiding around! Can anyone shed any light on this? cheers.

Hi all. i Had security tool on my system this morning. to remove it didnt require any antivirus software. i restarted the pc in safe mode with networking. do that by tapping f8 while the computer starts. then when it has started find the link to security tool and right click to find the location and just delete it, the file name is random numbers. i then restarted in normal mode and my pc was better. I using windows 7 home premium. hope this info helps anyone

I am beyond irritated and want this software removed immediately from my computer. Interesting you have no phone number to reach a person. I can barely get anything done without interference from your product. I expect prompt attention to this matter or will proceed furthere to the BBB or wherever necessary.
Have a great day.

I have Windows 7 and got infected with this virus. As was posted here I got rid of it by doing a System Restore from safe mode. F8 until safe mode screen boots up, Click on start, type in system restore, and follow instructions. What a life saver, Thank you, thank you!!

I just got hit by it, restore did not help, it disables most all programs. Running Vista, started in safe mode, type msconfig in the start menu, under startup proframs it was the last one listed, really goofy name, don’t remember what it was, unchecked the box so it doesn’t start, then restarted system, all good. Suggest running a malware type program to get rid of it afterward. Good luck

This is a bad one. I got rid of it once after a day of playing with it. I killed my comp a few times by holding power till I was able to start my antivirus before it started the virus.4 day’s later it’s returned. This time I did a rough shut down and on reboot took the safemode offer. In safe mode it let me run my anti virus. 90% done now and 7 virus found. This time after it works I will look for left over files. Wish me luck.

Looks like it worked starting in safemode then running your antivirus

ok, i use the SN that was posted above, i copied it and was looking to paste it when it popped up saying that the viral program was successfully registered. this stopped it from blocking programs that i was trying to run. i then ran “Malwarebytes” and it cleaned it up. i am now fixing my registery with “tweaknow reg cleaner”. ( i didnt even need to start in safemode)
so far this is working with no problems.
this is by far the easiest and quickest way to solve the issue as long as you are still able to access the internet and download items.
It also seems as though this trojan virus DOES NOT block you from downloading or accessing the net by way of FIREFOX.
sooooo, keep this in mind if you DO have firefox and are trying to get software to fix it.

My uncle’s computer got infected whit this fake virus alert, and reading the recommendation on removing it on Safe-Mode I got rid of the virus in under and hour – took me long since I needed to research the virus and end up on this help page.
I also had to remove the shortcut that the virus created on my shortcuts page (when you click on start – all programs)
overall a very well made help page. Happy with the results

Do not click on Pop Up Virus alert . Open Task Manager and END TASK. If you’re already infected – DISABLE System RESTORE . And run STINGER from us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=stinger
