Well Malawarebytes used to work ok but when I tried to update definitions I find there are trojans attached to the download. So now my MalawareB BYTES! I had to get rid of it and restore my system to last Saturday to block the trojan load cycle. Anyone know where I can get clean definitions file? Program will no longer run.

I already have this program. The downside is that because I have the free version, I can not update it. So when I went to scan my lap top recently for the Think Point (hotfix.exe) virus, it was useless.

Tried downloading this software to get rid of ThinkPoint, but the malware program froze my laptop. I turned it off and rebooted it, but the computer no longer loads up windows. Instead I get a black screen with a flashing white icon in the top left hand corner. Is my computer dead? Any ideas on what might have caused this?

Download it from cnet
If you trry downloading it from the actual publishers website, whatever malware you have will stop you from opening that page. Find an external download link somewhere. I was having the same problem and then found it on cnet, they did a review of it and provided a download of it.
This worked for me.

Ran a virus scan tool that did not identify or remove Internet Security Suite virus. Later I ran the software to clean up the registry and then Malwrebytes Anti-Malware (full scan) and it completely removed the virus.

If you have windows vista and already have this downloaded, some viruses won’t let you open it to run it. Try right clicking and running as administrator. It’s worked for me almost every time. This program (the free version) has cleaned my computer of many viruses. Another program that’s helped along with this one is Spbot – Search and Destroy. It’s free andis really good at cleaning your computer (but it’s not specifically targeted toward Malware but it does cover that as well)

rkill needs to be ran before MS Tools can open. Restart computer and as quick as possible open “rkill”. Rkill will stop virus MS Tools from opening. Then run maleware-bytes. Goodluck

I was able to download malwarebytes on another computer and then run it in safe mode. it found multiple threats, which I removed, but when I enter back to “normal mode” windows xp….opening any files still asks for which program and it is still and freezing. no more fake antivirus though.
malwarebytes says its over 120 days, but i’m not able to connect to the internet to update…

Can I download Malwarebytes onto my “good” computer, put it on a flashdrive, then download it onto my infected computer? I am trying to go to malwarebytes.org on the infected computer in safe mode and it is saying that the website refused my connection. Just trying to figure out a way around that. Thanks

I’m afraid none of this seems to work. Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware must run without updating (virus blocks access), and with present definitions (133 days old) XP Antivirus 2011 virus is not detected. It looks like some of the comments touch on this, but they are all truncated – I can’t read them. Darn!

WOW IDK HOW GREAT IT WORKS YET BUT IM 2:24 SECS INTO SCAN AND ALREADY FOUND AN INFECTED FILE. BEFORE SUSPECTED INFECTION OF VISTA INTERNET SECURITY VIRUS, I COULDNT GET ON INTERNET EXPLORER WITHOUT THE VIRUS THREAT MESSAGE AND A FEW POP UPS, WOULDNT START MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS, SO I RAN A SCAN ON AN INDIVIDUAL FILE AND IT STARTED UP FOR ME, I RAN A FEW VIRUS SCANS AND NOTHING, THEN I FORGOT TO UPDATE, I UPDATED AND IT FOUND LIKE 6 FILES BUT I WAS STILL SEEING THE ICON IN SYSTEM TRAY, SO I DOWNLOADED MICROSOFT MALICIOUS SOFTWARE REMOVAL TOOL, AND WINPATROL. MMSRT FOUND NOTHING, BUT NOW THE ICON IS GONE AND NO POP UPS???? SO I FELT LIKE THE VIRUS WAS STILL THERE BUT I GUESS IT WAS HIDING, I AM EXPERIENCED BUT NOT MORE ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE IM REALLY JUST GOING BASED OFF WHAT I KNOW OR BELIEVE TO KNOW BUT MORE OF A “GOOGLE DO-IT-YOURSELFER” LMAO SO ANYWAY, I JUST DOWNLOADED MALWAREBYTES AND 2:24 IT FOUND 1 INFECTED OBJECT :P IT MAY BE WHAT IM LOOKING FOR MAY NOT BUT I WILL SOON FIND OUT!

I am surprised no one mention the easiest way to remove this virus. The executable file extension could may be renamed to a .bat instead of .exe, then it will let you execute the file as a .bat, now as I write the malwarebyte software is removing the annoying “Windows XP 2011 Security” … HURRAY!

Hi guys, I have been using Malwarebytes for years to get rid off rogue bugs and it always managed it well. The best is to restart the computer and boot into SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING while pressing F8 at computer start up. That way the bug will not block the installation or updating of Malwarebytes.
However the last time I used malwarebytes to remove XP Anti-virus 2011, it removed the infection, but after a restart I ended up with no icons on the desktop, taskbar and “All programs” was empty. Has anyone come across a similar issue? Thanks in advance?

If anyone can share a straightforward way to restore the start menu and the all files list, I would be grateful. Tips on this site showed me how to get XPRestore off my computer and I’m now running the full version of MalwareBytes for protection, but I have no idea how to restore my programs and start menu.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
